Joybilee Farm  Fiber Art Tools

These tools are built using a lathe or hand tools and local wood -- pine, spruce, maple, birch, larch, hawthorn, cherry, apple, peach.  Each one is unique being shaped by the type of wood, and the tools selected.   Each tool is shaped then sanded through to 400 grit and then finished with a nontoxic finish.

Hand made in Canada.

Cherry Nostepinne
A nostepinde is an ancient Norse tool for winding a ball of yarn to make a centre pull ball.  This tool helps you make a neat ball that allows the yarn to flow smoothly from the centre while the ball remains stationery.  It keeps your yarn in order and saves frustrating tangles and snarls, reducing waste.

Hand turned nostepindes from local woods - birch, spruce, maple, fruitwood.  If you have a preference please email us first for availablility.

Our nosties come with ball winding instructions.

Hand carved crochet hook
Ergonomic Crochet Hooks -- These crochet hooks are hand carved, not turned and have a natural oval shape to reduce hand fatigue while hooking.  Each is an individual work of art.  Made from  exotic hardwoods they are one of a kind, and wonderful to work with.  Available as a custom order in US sizes J to P
(6mm to 10mm)  $15 each  (out of stock)

Hand turned sett gauges -- in local and exotic woods.  Each is one of kind and has markings at one inch intervals.

Winding yarn around a ruler to measure the wraps-per-inch, increases twist and gives an inaccurate count.  By rolling yarn on a round sett gauge your yarn twist remains stable and you get the reliable count necessary for calculating warp for weaving or deciding on needle size and gauge in knitting. In stock.
-- $15 each

Two Mahogany Lucets
The lucet is a medieval tool used to make a tight knitted cord.  It is similiar to spool knitting but uses only two stitches instead of 4.  The resulting cordage is square rather than round.  The lucet is more convenient than spool knitting -- you use our hands to lift the stitches rather than a tool.  There's no centre hole so you can use any yarn, string or fabric strip.  The diameter of your cord is determined by the grist of your yarn.

Cordage can be used to make leashes, lashings, lacings,  or wound and stitched to make rugs, trivets etc.  Instructions to make a basic cord are included.

Lucets in this style hand carved from local B.C. pine, larch, birch or spruce.  $15 each.
