The Joybilee Farm Linen Festival - August 6, 2011

10am to 5pm
at Joybilee Farm

Admission: $7 for the day or $25 per family

Its a party made for remarkable, creative people, who want to be inspired to seize their dreams.

You will drive in at 12025 Hwy. 3 -- That's Joybilee Farm -- and park your car near the linen field.  You'll say, "Hi," to the sheep, goats and llamas, admire the new baby llamas and get a quick picture while the llama babies try to kiss you over the fence.  Then you'll pay your admission and walk up the hill, past the very clean, sweet smelling composting outhouse.  Good, now you know where the washroom is.

Take a look at the map that the gal at the admission booth gave you.  Wow, speakers, artisans, linen fashion, demonstrations and lots of hands on learning opportunities.  You'll wish you brought the kids, the grand kids, and the neighbor -- there's so much to take in.

The first thing you'll notice is the quiet.  There's a rooster crowing, some goat kids baaing.  No heavy drum beat.  No bass amp that's too loud.  No yelling over the top of the music to be heard.  There are real people, not wannabe superstars.  This is a real farm.  Its a remarkable place where dreams come true.  Welcome to the Joybilee Farm Linen Festival.  Its the only Linen Festival in English speaking North America.

Did you bring your spinning wheel?  There's a spinning circle on the East Side of the House, along with some coffee and tea, and cookies -- help yourself -- its by donation and donations support local food charities.

So what's going on?  Is it all day?  You bet!  With lots of time to explore your passions and get excited about not just linen, but about local, sustainable clothing, living out your passions, wearing your dream on your sleeve.

The Joybilee Farm Linen Festival is a celebration of locally grown and locally created clothing and cloth -- drop in workshops and hands on demonstrations on the production of linen from garden to garment,  speakers, heritage displays, fashion and fun.  Joybilee Farm is a working fiber farm and artisan studio with sheep, goats, angora rabbits, natural dye garden and linen culture demonstrations.  Fiber artists that grow their own medium.  Everyone welcome.  Admission $7 per person or $25 per family.  Bring a lunch and stay all day.

11am "History of Linen" -

Here's your chance to learn more about this exquisite fiber and impress your friends with your extensive knowledge.  Find out why Linen is ideal for small scale processing.  Learn how households grew, processed and wove their own yardage for centuries and be inspired to try it yourself.  Learn a bit about Doukhobor linen and hemp culture and see historic examples of both everyday and fine linen clothing.

1pm Linen Scutching Party --

join us as we process water retted linen -- Break it, scutch it, hackle it ready for spinning.  Take a walk through "Inspiration House" and be, well, inspired by the crafts that you can do with linen.  Then grab a space and try your hand at linen paper, linen finger weaving,  or just spin your line and weave a bookmark, make a bracelet or necklace to take home.  You're only limited by your time and imagination.  "Inspiration House" will be open for the day, so feel free to explore your passions and take as much time as you want.  Homeschoolers and youngsters welcome, with adult supervision.  Sorry, no on-site child-minding this year.

2pm "Linen as a Metaphor for the independent, simple life".  Have you thought about finding your passion, escaping the 9 to 5, and breaking free to follow your dreams of simple, sustainable living?  Join Robin, the homesteading guru, as he shares the journey and gives you tips to help you find the freedom to do what you love, where you want to live.

This inspirational talk, includes a brief farm tour, with living examples of how you can take your own dream and through small planned actions, achieve freedom and a sustainable lifestyle, where you want to live.
