Joybilee Farm Silk Throwster's Waste

This is virgin  silk fibers that are the discards of the silk reeling process.  During reeling of the silk cocoon sometimes the fibers tangle and get caught in the gears of the silk reels.  The silk is so strong that it must be cut from the machines.  Joybilee Farm uses this wonderful, lustrous, soft, textured fiber for our own 'Tude yarns, as well as handdyeing it for your projects.

It is not used Sari waste products and has never been spun or woven before.

This textured silk is great for spinning by the handful.  Simply draft a handful and let the twist run into the fibers, taking all the glorious texture with it.  The fibers very in length with some being very long.  It makes a lovely, velvety textured yarn.

Or use it as embellishment for felting or other work.  It is lovely laid down on denim and free hand stitched, too.

Fire! Fire! - The summer of 2003 will long be remembered here in the Kootenay Boundary as the Summer of the Fires.  This colourway was inspired by our drives through Oosoyoos, Kelowna, and Chase during their devastating fires, when the mountainside lit up with the candling pine trees, against the black sky.  Lipstick Red, Scarlet, Fushia, Burgundy, Blue Red, Christmas Red, with a hint of purpley red and charred red.  Fire! is red hot when hand dyed in silk.  The colours just glow.

This colourway, Winter Nights, is inspired by the lumination of the full moon against a Winter sky, overlooking a snowy pasture, the whole scene framed in the silhouette of pine trees and mountain side--this is the view I have through  my studio window tonight, as I sit at my spinning wheel.  Rich jewel tones of burgundy, navy, lapis lazuli,  fuschia, scarlet, moonlight white, deep true blue, royal purple, amethyst, indigo,  true red.  This is a deeper, richer colourway along the same hues as Westcoast Sunset.
