Wear woad and express your joy
in this uncommon and environmentally friendly natural dye.

Woad dyed silk scarves - these 100% silk scarves are  hand dyed using a unique method of dyeing directly on fabric using plant material.  The method uses a minium of water, no harsh chemicals and is completely eco-friendly.  The results are  beautiful, one of a kind wearable art, painted with Nature's palette of natural dye colours.

The process takes several steps, over many weeks.    First the silk scarf is handdyed in a  dye vat made from the waste liquid of the woad-indigo extraction process.  This gives many unique colours from pinks to teal and sky blue.  Then 2nd year woad leaves, flowers and seeds are laid out on the hand dyed fabric, pounded with a wooden mallet and allowed to ferment for several days.  The leaves, flowers, and seeds imprint the fabric leaving a beautiful, permanent, and one of a kind pattern.

The sale of these beautiful, one of a kind, 100% silk scarves and shawls help support my science research.

Silk and Rayon Devore satin shawl in a bamboo pattern with hand tyed fringe.

Hand dyed with woad-indigo in ice blue, sky blue, medium queens' blue or rich indigo blue.  Each shawl is unique and one of a kind.

Each one is hand dyed in the waste liquid from the woad-indigo extraction vat and reveals to me how much indigo I am missing in my unique extraction process.  The rayon picks up a different shade of blue than the silk and the shawl shimmers beautifully.  Limited edition.

22 x 72 inches.  One of a kind -- $65.

"I just wanted to tell your daughter that I planted her woad seeds this year and had a wonderful crop.  I have just spent two days dyeing mohair and had great colours.
Thank you for making this seed available."
Gayle, Fernie, B.C.

Caution:  Plants should not be allowed to go to seed indiscriminately, due to the danger of woad -- weed infestation.  Woad is considered a noxious weed in 8 Western U.S. states.  The indigo is extracted from the first year plants only.

Woad seed cannot be shipped to California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana or Utah.  Please check the noxious weed status in your area before ordering.
